Unless you live under a rock, you’re probably aware that the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament began yesterday. And with the first full day of action, came a series of FAILS. Let’s begin…
1. The fact Thursday and Friday isn’t actually “Round 1″, but “Round 2″.
I’m fully aware “Round 1″ started Tuesday, but when all but 4 teams gets a bye, it doesn’t count as a Round. Try again.
This would have been a MUCH bigger deal had Syracuse lost on Thursday afternoon – making them the 1st No. 1 seed to lose to a 16-seed n- but alas, they squeaked past NC – Asheville without their star center.
3. Southern Mississippi’s band’s attempt at racism.
During the K-State/So Miss nail biter Thursday afternoon, the So Miss band decided it would be awesome to chant “Where’s your green card?” while K-State’s Angel Rodriguez (who is of Puerto Rican descent) was shooting free throws. Guess the folks at So Miss don’t teach that Puerto Rico is a US Territory, huh?
It’s sad when you’re trying to be racist and can’t even get that right. I think losing and having to go back to Mississippi is an appropriate punishment.
4. The reffing during the last minute of the Syracuse/NC-Asheville game.
This was easily our best bet to get that elusive “16-seed over a 1-seed upset” that we all are dying to see. Seems the refs had different plans.
The first bad call came when the refs missed a blatant goal-tending call that would have put UNC-A on the line for an and-one. Up next had to have been the ‘What even” moment of the tournament so far. With 34 seconds left in the game, ‘Cuse was up by 3 and an Orange player fumbled the ball out of bounds. BUT somehow the referee called it out on an Asheville player, who when watching the replay over and over, was no where near the ball.
Oh, what might have been…
5. Bracket talk.
All you people who feel the need to post how your bracket is doing on Facebook and/or Twitter? No one cares. I’d rather know what you ate for breakfast or how that workout went. Seriously.
I can’t wait to see what sort of craziness Day 2 will bring!
